MV idea 2: The Scientist

The second idea is for the song 'The Scientist' by Coldplay. 

Again, to present the new band and establish their star image there would be a section in the music video where the audience would see the band playing and singing. This is the most simple part -  I imagine them performing in a white room with soft blue and red lighting.

Second part of the video - is the actual story. 

The clip starts in a laboratory - the scientist in a white coat is working on his new artifice. The white room is filled up with different papers, books, tools and metal pieces. The man is sitting at the table, binding a bulb on the top of the metal device. Behind him on the board there are different formulas and numbers written. After finishing working he tries to turn the device on (so that the bulb lights up) but nothing happens. He becomes really frustrated, smashes all of his written work from the table, takes a blank page and starts again.

After a several trials he is totally confused about how to turn on his new artifice. He is still at the table, looking at everything he'd written. At that moment the door opens and another scientist in the white coat enters, followed by a beautiful young woman, also in a white coat. From the gesticulation we understand that she was hired to help him with his work.

The second scientist then walks away. She comes closer to the table and gives a hand to a scientist, greeting him. He shakes her hand. At that moment, a bulb on the top of his artifice lights up slightly. They both notice it. He is extremely excited about it, she is also happy. He drags her on his side of the table and gives her a book. They both start working together, investigating the way their invention works.

From that moment they work in the laboratory, spending a lot of time together. Slowly, we can see how their relationships are building up to romantic ones, through the looks they give each other, accidental touches, smiles, e.t.c. As a result they kiss. Simultaneously the bulb on the device lights up very brightly. They both look at it and at each other.

They ask another scientists, their colleagues to come and look at their artifice - everyone agrees on the uniqueness of the invention. On that day he gives her a present - a necklace in a form of a bulb, which lights up if you press the button. The second identical necklace he keeps to himself.

They both continue working with it, documenting something and counting different variables and formulas. During the work process we can slowly start to notice problems in their personal relationships. We discover his obsession with the artifice. He spends less time with his girlfriend, don't pay any attention to what she says, if it doesn't relate to the work, he doesn't pick up a phone immediately as he did before as he's always working with his artifice. She doesn't like that, but he doesn't understand that. He points at the bulb, trying to explain that it's not as bright as it used to be, and we have to work on it, as science is the most important thing of all, but she doesn't listen. Being really angry she takes their artifice from the table and throws it back down. He looks shocked, grabs her by the shoulders and starts to shake, screaming. She starts to cry and walks out of the room. He's about to run after her, but stops in the middle of the room and returns back to the artifice to repair it.

She runs out of the building, crying. He is repairing the artifice and the bulb, which light is very weak. She looks at her necklace and turns it on. The bulb lights up the dark knight.

She returns back to the laboratory the next morning. She comes up to their door, but before she opens it, another laboratory worker, a young woman, comes out of it, looking her up and down, and walks away. She enters the laboratory. He is lying on the table next to the artifice with very weak light. The bottle of alcohol is next to him half empty, his glasses are on the table next to the bulb necklace. She comes up to the table, picks up the necklace and tries to turn it on. It doesn't work. She tries again, but it doesn't. She takes her necklace off and puts it on the desk next to his one. She tries to reach his head, but stops, turns around and walks out of the room.

At the moment when she closes the door he wakes up. The bulb on the artifice burns out and the smoke is coming out.
