In the process of pre-production it's really important to search for similar products to see if what you're trying to create was once successful or whether you need to change it.
I've researched about costumes for our main actors - red dress and a suit - and tried to find similar costumes in famous films.
Here is what I've found:
1. Jo from 'Funny Face' wears a long red dress, which still remains a fashion icon.
The dress was designed by Givenshy.
2. Vivian from 'The Pretty Woman' wears a beautiful off-shoulder red floor length gown to emohasize her transformation into a sophisticated woman.
Costume designed by Marilyn Vance, who insisted on making the dress red, whether the studio wanted it black.
There's also an example of male costume - traditional black suit and white shirt. As we can see, black, red and white look good on the camera together.
3. Satine from 'Moulin Rouge' wears a long red dress with a v-neckline, which was popular in 1890. The dress was made from red silk and red to work with Kidman's red locks.
Costume designed by Catherine Martin and Angus Strathie.
4. Arwen's 'Blood Dress' from the 'Lord of the Rings: return of the King', the name is attributed to the gorgeous velvet bell sleeve. The costume is composed of a red under-dress with gold embroidery and a dark burgundy over-dress.
The costume designed by 'Ngila Dickson', who also called it 'dying frock'.
5. Rose's 'Jump Dress' from 'Titanic' - is one of the most popular and the most reproduced dresses from the movies.
Designed by Deborah L.Scott.
On the other hand, the man is wearing a black suit and white shirt with no tie, which is a typical evening outfit for males.
Red dress seems to be quite specific and doesn't appear on the screen as much as the black suit for males, because suits have a neutral impact on the audience - they can represent a variety of different characteristics of the character.
Here are some of the many examples of black suits used in popular movies:
Overall, it's reasonable to say that both of our costumes would not only look good on the camera, but will also look good together.
